Local councillor welcomes efforts to cut anti-social behaviour
Published on Friday 10th May 2013 by Northumberland Lib Dems
This week’s Queen Speech has taken further action to tackle anti-social behaviour in Northumberland. The news comes as figures reveal that the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour in the Northumbria police force area has already fallen by 22,692 per year since the Coalition Government came to power.
The Anti-Social Behaviour Bill builds on the Coalition Government’s record on tackling crime and supporting victims by scrapping Labour’s discredited ASBOs, which became a badge of honour amongst some young offenders and were routinely breached by them.

Lib Dem candidate brings Tim to talk to local businesses
Published on Monday 15th April 2013 by Northumberland Lib Dems

As well as being the Liberal Democrats’ president, Mr Farron is the Member of Parliament for Westmorland & Lonsdale, a constituency which covers much of rural Cumbria.

A 'thank you' to those who helped in Berwick
Published on Wednesday 8th May 2013 by Northumberland Lib Dems
The town of Berwick is once again a Lib Dem fortress. Sitting councillors Isabel Hunter and Jim Smith held their seats against a strong Conservative challenge and local business owner Gavin Jones took the Berwick North seat off the sitting independent councillor after a hard-fought and energetic campaign – he will be an excellent councillor and champion of his town. In Alnwick, where we ran a strong campaign and a very busy polling day operation, one time Alnwick District Council leader Heather Cairns won one of the two seats, with Clare Mills coming in a close third with a strong share of the vote.
Council Leader demands Labour come clean over Council Tax plans
Published on Monday 15th April 2013 by Northumberland Lib Dems
With Labour’s Blyth Town Council increasing their portion of the Council Tax by nearly 60%, questions are being asked about Labour´s plans for Northumberland County Council.
Labour have so far remained silent on what they plan to do with Council Tax ahead of the County Council elections. The Liberal Democrat-run council has again frozen Council Tax for the year – fulfilling a promise made ahead of the 2008 County Council elections.
